Happy EMS week and Shoutout to the Paramedics and Happy EMS week and Shoutout to the Paramedics and EMTs of the Oceanside fire department! In 1975, the OFD was the first fire department in San Diego county to integrate advanced life support services within the fire department and create a new rank, firefighter/ paramedic. Since then the firefighter/ paramedics of the OFD have continued to provide excellent care and customer service to the citizens of Oceanside and tourist who visit Oceanside. Over the past several years, The Oceanside firefighter/ paramedics have continuously experienced fatigue from low staffing due to an alarming attrition rate, lack of apparatus needed to keep up with the ever growing city, exposing themselves and their families to COVID and many other challenges however continuing to do the job because they love the city of Oceanside and it’s citizens. Thank you Oceanside firefighters and Happy EMS week to all the paramedics and EMTs around the world.

#osidefire recently drilled on Tactical Emergency #osidefire recently drilled on Tactical Emergency Causality Care in an hostile environment. We train in these environments to learn how to function and provide medicine under very high stress levels. These training sessions were put on by the Oceanside SWAT medics who work primarily for the fire department but also train and go on missions with the Oceanside police SWAT team. Many of these SWAT medics also teach a Tactical Medic Technician course @strategic_operations where they themselves learned to become SWAT medics. Another one of the many ways #osidefire serves the city of Oceanside.
The Oceanside Fire Department would like to say fa The Oceanside Fire Department would like to say farewell and congratulations to Fire Captain Jose McNally on his recent retirement.

It’s been a busy couple weeks down at the Oceans It’s been a busy couple weeks down at the Oceanside Training center. Progress continues on the new training tower. Multiples walls are going up and it’s coming together.

None of this would be possible if it wasn’t for the support of the city of Oceanside on Measure X. Measure X has given us the funds to be able to build this new training tower. This training tower will give the Oceanside Fire Department an opportunity to improve our skills as firefighters and continue to best serve our community. We also hold an average of 2 new recruit firefighter academies a year. Having access to this tower will allow our academy cadre to teach the new recruits the essential skills needed to perform the job.

We continue to look forward to the upcoming weeks and the progression of the training tower. Thanks again to the City of Oceanside and Measure X!

Fire crews extricated two individuals who were transported to local trauma centers by air and ground transport. The cause of the crash is still unknown and under investigation.

It’s been a long time coming for The Oceanside F It’s been a long time coming for The Oceanside Fire Department to break ground on a training tower. Yesterday the first wall went up. This milestone is very exciting for all personnel and brings a sense of pride to have our own training tower. The OFD will have state of the art technology in order to train on more realistic scenarios. This continuous training makes us even better as a Fire Department and more proficient in serving our city.

💵 Fundraiser linked in profile bio. #SanDiegoCounty - A memorial scholarship fund has been created in honor of “Mama Tee” Tina Ward, one of the four victims killed in a plane crash earlier this week in #ElCajon. Ward has been identified as the wife of a recently retired Oceanside deputy fire chief. “She gave so much of her light and love to others through her service of 30+ years as a paramedic and a critical care nurse”, the fundraiser says, adding “Her daughters and loving husband would like to memorialize her legacy and her unparalleled selflessness and mentorship through the Tina Ward Memorial Scholarship Fund”. All funds donated will go directly toward scholarships for underrepresented students working on furthering their careers in EMS.

The Learjet 35A took off from John Wayne Airport in Orange County and was scheduled to land at Gillespie Field. Shortly after air traffic control had cleared the plane to land, it crashed into a residential area about 1.4 miles from the end of the runway. The three other victims were identified by the Medical Examiner’s office as 68-year-old Laurie Gentz of Escondido, 45-year-old Douglas Grande, and 67-year-old Julian Bugaj.

A preliminary report from the NTSB detailing the circumstances of the accident is expected within the next several weeks. The final report is expected within one to two years. Witnesses to the accident and those that may have video of any aspect of the accident sequence or have information that could be relevant to the investigation should contact the NTSB by email at witness@ntsb.gov.
